Unfortunately for Liverpool, they could not add Fabio Carvalho to Luis Diaz in January as a deal with Fulham collapsed on deadline day.
The two clubs agreed a fee of £8m for the 19-year-old, and shook hands on the teenager returning to Craven Cottage on loan.
However – as the BBC explain – the finer details of the deal could not be completed in time, and the move fell through.
Nevertheless, Carvalho becomes a free agent in June, so it’s likely that the Reds sign him for nothing in the summer – what happened on deadline day certainly cannot be considered a failure.
However, there is one thing we deem as a mistake by Michael Edwards.
Liverpool should’ve signed Arnaut Danjuma in 2021
Under Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool have made a habit of poaching the best players from relegated clubs and turning them into gems.
It was Edwards who pinched Andy Robertson from Hull for just £8m, as well as Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle for £25m.
He also secured the £13m signing of Xherdan Shaqiri, which proved to be a bargain.

Now, when Bournemouth were relegated at the end of the 2019/20 season, Arnaut Danjuma became available.
For whatever reason, he remained with the Cherries, scoring 17 goals while also providing eight assists in the 2020/21 season.
Still, Liverpool didn’t budge then or in 2021, despite Marca claiming that he was of interest to the Reds.
Villarreal show Liverpool what they could’ve had
Eventually, Villarreal secured a £21.3m deal for the 5-cap Netherlands international, who is now playing at a very high level.
So far this season, Danjuma has scored nine goals, with four of those coming in the Champions League.

Aged just 25, he is a regular for the Netherlands and a dangerous Champions League forward, who could’ve been Liverpool’s for just £21.3m.
Edwards doesn’t get much wrong, but we think even he is probably kicking himself for not taking this opportunity.
