Former Chelsea star Kalou would be an excellent addition to Newcastle’s squad.

If recent reports are to be believed, Newcastle United are sourcing the Bundesliga as a scouting pool to end their search for a striker after the disappointment of Islam Slimani. But they are targeting the wrong forward.
German newspaper Bild has claimed that the Toon are interested in 15-goal Hannover striker Niclas Fullkrug, who would cost £8.8million, while magazine Kicker claim Japan international Yoshinori Muto has also been shortlisted.
Both strikers have been in decent form this season, but neither boast the calibre and proven track record to shine in the Premier League. Newcastle need a striker to hit the ground running, if they are to avoid a relegation dogfight.

Sticking with the Bundesliga, Rafa Benitez should turn his attention to experience with the majority of the Newcastle side under 30 years of age.
Only Rob Elliot, Jesus Gamez and Mo Diame are in their thirties, with only the latter actually considered anywhere near the first team at the moment. An elder statesman, with Premier League experience is required.
Step forward Premier League and Champions League winner Salomon Kalou, who at 32 years of age has shown that age is just a number with an impressive return of 12 goals and three assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances.

The 97-time Ivory Coast international has huge Premier League experience following his time with Chelsea, where he clocked up 156 appearances in England’s top flight.
Since moving to the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin, Kalou has added versatility to his game. He has operated on the left wing, up front and in the number 10 role this season.
Adding the experienced Kalou to Newcastle’s side would certainly prove a major summer coup, and could be the difference between a top-half finish and a relegation battle come this time next year.
