Forget Bale: There’s another Spurs player Daniel Levy must be focused on replacing – Our View

It looks as though Gareth Bale’s return to Tottenham won’t have the fairytale ending that everyone had hoped for.

It has been reported that the Welsh winger will be returning to Real Madrid at the end of the season, and while losing your highest-paid player would usually be reason to panic, Spurs needn’t worry.

Indeed, regardless of the fact that Bale is Spurs’ best-paid player this season, they don’t really need to focus on replacing him.

They have a plethora of wingers at the club in the shape of Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, Steven Bergwijn and even Ryan Sessegnon, so Bale’s departure won’t be too much of a blow.

However, there is one loanee at the club Daniel Levy has to be fully focused on repalacing.

Of course, we’re talking about Carlos Vinicius.

Unfortunately, the Brazilian hasn’t had the impact many had hoped he’d have at Tottenham, failing to score a single Premier League goal so far, and if you discount a hat-trick against non-league outfit Marine, he’s scored just three goals in 15 appearances.

Unfortunately, he’s not proved to be the backup to Harry Kane that Tottenham desperately need, and that’s something Levy needs to address this summer.

Spurs’ biggest vulnerability is their dramatic drop-off in form when Kane isn’t in the side, they won just three of the nine league games he missed last season, and it’s no coincidence that they lost all three of the matches that were affected by his recent injury.

If Spurs would have won the three games that were affected by Kane’s injury they’d currently be level on points with Manchester United and five points off the top of the table, and we’d be talking about a completely different narrative at Tottenham.

However, Kane’s absence cost them nine points and that’s at least partially down to the fact that they don’t have truly adequate cover.

The good news for Spurs is that they don’t need to focus on replacing Bale this summer, but getting an upgrade on Vinicius at the end of the season is absolutely vital.
