So much has been made of Gareth Bale’s recent resurgence at Tottenham Hotspur, but let’s not ignore the recent marked improvement of Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian has been asked to play in a slightly different position as of late, operating as a number 10 for Jose Mourinho, and he’s taken to playing that role like a duck to water.
Lucas moved into the middle when Spurs played West Brom in early February and barring a first-half showing on the right-wing against West Ham, he hasn’t looked back.
Since moving into the middle he’s scored twice and assisted one goal, while his WhoScored average rating has been 7.17, a clear step up from his season average of just 6.51.
Moura has earnt a lot of praise since moving into that position, with Pep Guardiola describing him as ‘impossible to stop’ last month.
Lucas had struggled earlier in the season. He had just one goal or assist to his name in 16 appearances before switching position against West Brom, and since then he’s had three goal contributions in just six games.
Tottenham have looked like a team revived in recent weeks, and while a lot of that has been put down to Gareth Bale’s return to form, Lucas Moura’s rebirth as a number 10 has been just as influential.
Mourinho seems to finally have found the key to unlocking the Brazil international at Tottenham, and at the moment he looks nigh on undroppable.
If Spurs are to continue their charge as they try to break into the European places late into the season, then Lucas’ form could be absolutely key to that.
