West Ham United are being strongly linked with a £10 million move for Hull City’s Robert Snodgrass but would do better hijacking Middlesbrough target.

The Hammers are one of several Premier League clubs who have had a bid accepted for the Scotland international according to Sky Sports.

Slaven Bilic is looking for new recruits particularly given the situation surrounding wantaway star Dimitri Payet who has gone on strike in a bid to force a return to former club Marseille.

The East Londoners have excelled since Payet was banished from the first team, beating Crystal Palace and Middlesbrough 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.

But Bilic knows he will need to replace the France hero’s creativity if his side are to continue to push on up the table.

Most West Ham fans have been underwhelmed by the club’s interest in Snodgrass, with many feeling he is distinctly average.

That is perhaps a touch harsh on the former Leeds United midfielder who has one of the best set piece deliveries in the top flight and an eye for goal.

But the top video compilation of Snodgrass on YouTube does him few favours.

Wherever you stand on Snodgrass, Bilic and his co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold would be a lot wiser to try and hijack Middlesbrough’s move for Spain international and former Real Madrid starlet Jese Rodriguez.

The 23-year-old left the Bernabeu for Paris St Germain in a £21m deal just last summer in search of more game time.

The Spain U21 international has failed to establish himself, though, playing only nine games with one goal to his name.

According to BBC Sport, Boro have reportedly agreed a loan deal with an option to buy and Aitor Karanka is trying to convince Jese to move to Teeside.

With the door still open West Ham should swoop and offer Jese the chance to play for the 18th richest club in Europe, in front of 60,000 fans at the iconic Olympic Stadium and the opportunity to live in London.

If the Hammers can persuade Jese to join them initially on loan, it would also give the fans hope that they can compete for some of Europe’s top talent after a very disappointing summer of recruitment which has largely been blamed for the club’s torrid first half of the season.
