Leeds United were heavily linked with Bristol City’s Aden Flint in the summer.
Leeds United produced one of their best defensive performances since the opening weeks of the season in Sunday’s emotionally charged 2-1 win at home to Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough.
But with Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper enduring prolonged spells of indifferent spells in a recent run of seven defeats in nine Championship games, Leeds still have a decision to make in the January transfer window.
Do they enhance their centre-back options with a big signing?
Perhaps Aden Flint will come back into contention, the 6ft 7ins monster of a man being heavily linked with a move to Elland Road in the summer.
The Mirror reported that Leeds made an enquiry about Bristol City’s talisman in August – and he has since starred in The Robins’ stunning start to the season, scoring four goals in 12 starts while defending with typical power at the other end.
But there’s another highly-rated centre-back impressing at Ashton Gate this season. A £4 million signing from Aston Villa, per the BBC, Nathan Baker has been one of the league’s most inspired additions so far in 2017/18.
And, unlike Flint, Baker has experience at a higher level, having played plenty of games for Villa in the Premier League prior to that most humiliating of relegations in 2015/16.
Leeds, then, could perhaps benefit more from a player who has already tried his hand in a higher division – the place Thomas Christiansen’s side are desperate to be. Bristol City would perhaps ask even more for their summer signing than they would for the highly-rated Flint, Baker is two years younger and has arguably more room to improve.
