The Reds boss is believed to be on the brink of dismissal at the City Ground but supporters are torn following the loss at The Den.

Aitor Karanka, Manager of Nottingham Forest looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Nottingham Forest at The Den on December 29, 2018 in London, England.

Nottingham Forest have ended 2018 on a low note after Saturday’s Championship trip to Millwall ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Ryan Tunnicliffe’s overhead kick in the ninth minute came about after the Reds failed to deal properly with a corner, and it proved the difference between the two sides at The Den.

Although Forest improved in the latter stages of the first half and finished the game with 65% possession, according to BBC Sport, they could not breach the opposition rearguard.

The result in south-east London means that Aitor Karanka’s charges have not won in five games and, following Derby’s last-ditch win over Norwich, leaves them six points adrift of the playoff zone.

According to a report in The Telegraph, the Spaniard was under strict instructions by the Forest board to secure a place in the playoffs by January 1, and failure to achieve this may result in his sacking.

As this reported target has now not been hit, with the East Midlanders 10th in the table, the pressure may be cranking up on Karanka and, if the rumours are to be believed, could be on his way out of the City Ground.

Some Forest fans took to Twitter after the result and voiced their opinions on whether they want Karanka to stay – with opinion seeming very much split down the middle:
