Nottingham Forest’s Lars Veldwijk has called the club’s stadium beautiful.

Nottingham Forest striker Lars Veldwijk says that the City Ground is a beautiful place to play football at.

The target-man centre-forward who signed from Excelsior for £500,000 this summer has made a slow start at Forest, but he appears to be enjoying life in his new surroundings.

“This stadium (the City Ground) is a beautiful place and I hope to get the chance to play here more often as well,” he said to the Nottingham Post.

Despite failing to find the back of the net for the club to date, Veldwijk has proven to be a decent option in Stuart Pearce’s squad.

The striker may have not shown the ability to displace Britt Assombalonga as Forest’s main-man up-top, but he does offer a useful option, should a contingency plan be needed.

The Dutchman has shown his power and led the line reasonably well against top level opponents when the Reds took on Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup last week.

His task now is to start adding goals to his performances and the former Eredivisie front-man was not too far away from opening his account at the weekend.

Veldwijk came off the bench against Brighton and Hove Albion in the club’s 0-0 draw and almost scored a header with his first-touch, but his failure to make a full contact with the ball denied him his opportunity and it is something he admits was frustrating.

“I was only a small margin away from getting my first goal, but I could not quite make contact with the ball,” he said.

“I didn’t touch the ball. It would have been a big impact to make, as I hadn’t touched the ball yet, so my first touch could have been a goal. That would have been amazing.”

Veldwijk will be hoping that his moment in the headlines comes sooner rather than later to avoid any pressure falling on his sizeable shoulders.

Stuart Pearce’s men’s attacking talents have launched them into promotion contention and Veldwijk will realise that he must start scoring soon otherwise he could slip down the pecking order at his new club.
