Rangers parted ways with manager Mark Warburton last month.
General view outside Ibrox
It’s almost a month since Rangers parted ways with manager Mark Warburton – but a replacement could be on his way to Ibrox imminently.
The Gers saw Warburton leave the club in February, with Rangers claiming that he had resigned from his position, along with assistant manager David Weir and recruitment chief Frank McParland.
Whilst Rangers have been searching for a new manager, youth coach Graeme Murty has taken charge of the last five games, winning three and losing two, with his last outing a 6-0 win over Hamilton Academical.
However, Murty – who has no managerial experience to his name – is unlikely to land the job on a permanent basis, with Rangers zeroing in on their top target this week.
The Scottish Sun report that Rangers want to have Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha appointed as their new manager before this weekend’s Old Firm clash with Celtic, with talks ongoing with Al-Gharafa.
Pedro Caixinha
Caixinha, 46, is the surprise first choice for Rangers, and despite being a former Celtic scout, he is something of an unknown in Scottish football.
Formerly manager of Uniao Leiria, Nacional and Santos Laguna, Caixinha is currently in charge of Qatari side Al-Gharafa, but could now be heading to Glasgow.
Bookmakers – as compiled by Oddschecker – have Caixinha as short as 1/10 for the job, and with Gary Rowett the next-shortest price at 9/2, bookmakers seemingly think Rangers’ managerial search is a foregone conclusion, with Caixinha seemingly the only horse in the race at this point.
Do you think Caixinha is the right man for Rangers?
