David Provan has criticised Celtic interim-manager John Kennedy in The Scottish Sun for playing Scott Brown ahead of Ismaila Soro against Aberdeen.

Celtic played out a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening.

Scottish midfielder Scott Brown started for the Hoops against the club he is going to join as a player-coach in the summer transfer window.

Soro was an unused substitute, and Celtic legend Provan believes that Kennedy should have started the 22-year-old Ivorian midfielder ahead of 35-year-old Brown.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “No harm to John Kennedy, an impressive individual, but what was Scott Brown doing in his team at Pittodrie? Fine if he’d signed up for next season, but he’s offski. He’s effectively an Aberdeen player now.

“With second place secured and four dead rubbers left, why was Ismaila Soro parked on the bench in midweek? For the life of me I can’t see the logic.

“Brown’s service to the club probably deserves a lap of honour, but not at the expense of game-time for a talent like Soro. Benching the 22-year-old in favour of a departing veteran? So much for the future.”

Does David Provan have a point?

Soro is a very talented and promising young midfielder who joined Celtic in January 2020.

The 22-year-old is the future of Celtic, and Provan does make a good point.

Brown is leaving the Hoops, who are set to finish second, and with nothing to play for in the final games of the season, it would make sense for Kennedy to give young players such as Soro chances.

Of course, Brown is a Celtic legend, but Kennedy needs to think about the future of the club and should allow the youngsters to get good experience.
