‘For sure’: Tom Huddlestone agrees Spurs crying out for player they sold

Tom Huddlestone has agreed on talkSPORT (13/09/20 at 5:50 pm) that Tottenham are crying out for a player like Christian Eriksen following their tepid display on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s side simply weren’t at the races against a refreshed and revamped Everton side pushing for Europe.

In January, Eriksen parted ways with Spurs when he opted to join Serie A giants, Inter Milan, with six-months remaining on his contract.

Whilst Everton looked a different animal with new signings, James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré patroling the Goodison Park ship in the middle of the park, Mourinho’s men looked devoid of ideas and helpless.

On Spurs crying out for a player like Eriksen: “Yes, for sure,” Huddlestone told talkSPORT. “Christian Eriksen was a fantastic central player for Tottenham.

“Against Everton, Dele started in that sort of number 10 position, then Moura was in there and then Bergwijn by the end. I don’t think he’s got a settled number 10.

“Even them three are very different to Eriksen, who is similar to Fernandes up at Manchester United, who likes to get on the ball and gets his head up straight away and looks to find runners.

“As much as they do need a back-up striker, the creativity from deeper was lacking [against Everton].”

Back in July, Spurs recorded a 1-0 win over the Toffees in what was a pretty dour game of football from both parties.

Since then, Everton have reconstructed their midfield with the hands of their experienced Italian, Carlo Ancelotti, and going by the first game, it’s worked out a treat and there is something to shout about.

But for Mourinho, new signings such as Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Matt Doherty didn’t really add anything to the team in their first outing, whilst Allan swept the midfield with ease for the away side, Doucouré added much-needed energy and Rodriguez looked effortless and creative in an inside wide role.

Given that it’s Mourinho in charge, anything other than a win will spark negativity and it’s in full flow right now on one side of North London.
