Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal will definitely try to sign a new centre-half if David Luiz leaves this summer.
The Brazilian is out of contract at the end of the season, therefore, his future is up in the air at the Emirates.
Arsenal seemingly already have a contingency plan in place for if Luiz does go, with Romano claiming that they will go for a new defender if Luiz leaves the club.
“I want to add with Arsenal, they are going for a new right-back. Bellerín will maybe leave the club in the summer, but keep an eye also on a potential new centre-back for Arsenal. They are also considering a move for a new centre-back if David Luiz is not staying.”
“Everything will depend on David Luiz, nothing has been decided yet. At the end of the season, they will decide about David Luiz but if he will leave, for sure Arsenal will go for a new centre-back.”

This is certainly an interesting update.
Of course, it’s all dependant on Luiz leaving the club, which may or may not happen, but it’s good to hear that Arsenal have a plan in place for if they do lose the 57-cap Brazil international.
At the age of 34, it’s hard to see Arsenal offering Luiz a new deal, but then again, this is the same club that gave a 32-year-old Willian a three-year contract, so it’s sometimes impossible to predict what they’re going to do.
