Darren Bent has told talkSPORT that it would be ‘fantastic’ for Tottenham Hotspur’s fans if Harry Kane were to sign a new contract with the England captain backed to pen a new deal.
Kane still has two-and-a-half-years to run on his existing terms in north London signed back in 2018. He agreed to a six-year, £200k-a-week contract at the time for his fourth renewal in just four-years after Chairman Daniel Levy shattered his pay structure, per The Guardian.
But Kane’s future seemed set to be away from the capital over the summer after he asked to leave. Sky Sports reported in May that the striker informed Levy he wanted out once the 2020/21 campaign concluded. He also wanted his future resolved before Euro 2020 began.

In the end, however, Kane remained at Tottenham after Levy and Manchester City failed to agree to terms. He would state on Twitter at the end of August his immediate future would still be in north London. But only after Spurs turned down a £100m offer, Sky Sports noted.
Bent backs Kane for new Tottenham contract
Reports by TEAMtalk in September soon claimed Kane was open to signing a new contract after staying at Tottenham. He rejected the chance to pen fresh terms after Euro 2020 and requested £500k-a-week to renew. He also wanted team-related clauses to be included.
Form has mostly eluded Kane in the Premier League with Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte at Spurs since. The 28-year-old has scored just four goals in 16 appearances so far.

Three of his strikes have come in the north Londoners’ last three games, however. Now, Bent believes Kane could sign a new contract, which would be great for Tottenham’s fans.
“I heard – and I have to stress it was a rumour – but it’s that he’s potentially going to stay and sign a new contract there,” Bent said. “And you start thinking: ‘Well, what are Manchester City gonna do now?’
“They’ve let Ferran Torres go and you think: ‘That’s a bit strange, because they’ve not got no centre-forwards now’. Are they making room for Erling Haaland? And that’s potentially why he could stay and sign a new contract?
“This is what I’m hearing. For Spurs fans, that’d be fantastic.”
