Leicester City are reportedly interested in luring Mohamed Elneny to the King Power from Arsenal in the January transfer window with a £15million fee being mooted – but West Ham must put up a fight for the Egyptian’s signature.
The Sun claim Arsenal are willing to allow the 26-year-old midfielder to leave the club in January for the eight-figure fee, with Claude Puel’s Leicester said to be interested in landing the tough-tackling ace.
Elneny has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal following Unai Emery’s signings of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira. He has managed just four appearances in all competitions this season.
His future at Arsenal seems bleak, and Leicester are looking to take advantage of that. But West Ham have got to rival the Foxes for the 69-time international with the window six weeks away.
Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez have continued their injury-prone reputations at the London Stadiums since joining the club in the summer, while Mark Noble has been suspended this season.
It leaves the Hammers light in midfield, with Declan Rice’s future also a major doubt as his contract expires at the end of the season and has been linked with plenty of big Premier League sides.
The Hammers have shown their spending power this season and £15million is not a tall order for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Spending it on a reliable central midfielder, who is not known for his injuries, is key.
It should convince Pellegrini and West Ham to rival Leicester for Elneny, and lure the Egyptian to east London in what would be a third signing from Arsenal this season after Wilshere and Lucas Perez.
