The Lazio ace is a reported transfer target for Southampton, but Tottenham Hotspur should gatecrash the party.

Spurs fans continue to grow impatient at their club’s lack of activity in the transfer window, and despite their starting XI being one of the strongest in the Premier League, it is glaringly obvious that Mauricio Pochettino needs to bolster his options over the course of the next three weeks.

Tottenham finished second in the Premier League last term, and if the Argentine manages to bring in two or three new faces before the transfer window slams shut, there is no reason whatsoever why they cannot go one step further this time around.

The addition of another defender will surely feature highly on Pochettino’s agenda, with Kevin Wimmer deemed surplus to requirements in north London, and with this in mind, the Lilywhites should consider entering the race for Southampton-linked Wesley Hoedt, who could be available for around £15.4 million, according to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato.

Standing at just under 6ft 4in tall, the Lazio man possesses an ideal physique for the English game, and his aerial dominance, combined with an impressive ability to anticipate danger before it materialises would surely prove to be a real asset to Spurs.

The Holland international is already vastly experienced in playing at the very highest level in the game, despite being only 23-years-old, making a combined 88 senior appearances for both Lazio and AZ Alkmaar.

Whilst it would be extremely difficult for Hoedt to usurp either Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen as a regular starter for Tottenham, he would be a more than adequate stand in for either of them, and at just 23, he has many years ahead of him in which to learn and develop further still.

And Pochettino should do everything within his power to bring the strapping centre-back to Spurs before the transfer window shuts.
