Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom is reportedly closing in on a move to Greek side PAOK this summer for a bargain fee of just £2million, but Rangers should do all they can to throw a spanner in the works and lure him to Ibrox.
Goal claim the 22-year-old is closing in on a move to the Greek Super League side, after his loan spell in Belgium with Sint-Truiden proved successful with six goals in 16 games.
With only a year remaining on his contract, the England youth international is allowed to leave and for the bargain fee of just £2million with Unai Emery unwilling to give him a chance in the senior side.
And at such a low figure, Rangers should do all they can to bring the speed machine to Ibrox, with doubts continually surrounding the ability of Alfredo Morelos.
The Colombian has got off to a slow start this season, but did score his first goal of the season last time out against NK Osijek before following that up in a pre-season friendly against Wigan with another strike.
The Gers have signed Umar Sadiq on loan from AS Roma, but the need for another striker if obvious – with Steven Gerrard submitting an offer for Hearts and ex-Gers forward Kyle Lafferty.
Chris Sutton described the potential signing of Lafferty as underwhelming on BT Sport, and Gerrard needs to sign a striker who can excite fans – a player that is showing huge potential, explosive speed and an eye for goal is perfect.
Step forward Akpom, who would be the perfect alternative to Morelos’ power and Sadiq’s height, by offering blistering pace in the final third. Having three strikers who can all offer something different is crucial, especially if Rangers make the Europa League group stages.
Akpom’s speed also allows him to play out wide and that versatility, along with the aforementioned traits, would make him an absolute bargain signing at just £2million.
