Speculation is mounting that Arsenal have a new transfer target by the name of Darwin Nunez.

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal are among the many clubs now interested in bringing the Benfica hitman to the Emirates Stadium.

And if Edu can pull it off in North London, well it could be a game-changing signing for the Gunners.

Goal getter

The one thing this Arsenal side under Mikel Arteta is lacking is goals.

The Spaniard’s side boast the third-best defensive record in the Premier League this season – and remember, they shipped five goals to Manchester City in the opening weeks of the campaign.

With a prolific goalscorer next season, Arteta’s outfit could be a serious football team and it just so happens that Darwin knows where the net is.

The 22-year-old Uruguay international has scored 25 goals across all competitions this season, including three in the Champions League which should disprove cynicism that he’s only lethal in Portuguese football.

Even Dusan Vlahovic has only managed 24, illustrating Darwin’s efficiency in front of goal.

Arsenal have a talented youngster called Folarin Balogun who, at the moment, could be their only recognised number nine by June considering Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract.

But Darwin is a million miles ahead of Balogun and, at 22, he’s only going to get so much better.

If Edu coughs up the £53 million needed to sign Darwin, it’s a potential game-changing signing by Arsenal.

He could and probably will score the goals that’ll transform Arteta’s side and it’ll be so exciting for the club if their Brazilian director can pull this off.
