Will Tottenham Hotspur regret not going for Josh Maja in the end?
The clock is ticking and Tottenham Hotspur are yet to sign anybody in the January transfer window.
Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the addition of a striker in recent weeks after red-hot hitman Harry Kane was ruled out until early March.
But with five days left in the window, Tottenham haven’t made huge strides in this regard as of yet.
One of their reported targets, Josh Maja [The Express], has just gone to France [BBC Sport] – and what a signing he would’ve been for Spurs.
Maja quit Sunderland to join Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on Saturday. The 20-year-old is a hugely promising young striker and one that Pochettino could have moulded into a fine talent.
Not only that, but he joined the French side for £3.5 million [Daily Mail]. Everybody is talking about how the North Londoners’ £850 million stadium might see Daniel Levy tighten the purse strings, but they clearly could have afforded Maja.
Oh, and he also happens to be English. Pochettino confirmed on Friday [Football London] that he was primarily in the market for British players due to the homegrown quota in the Champions League.
London-born Maja would and could have been a brilliant signing for Tottenham. For that kind of money, there was very little to lose but a lot to potentially gain with Maja, whose price-tag was less than Dele Alli’s £5 million [The National].
And a couple years from now it might seem obvious that the Lilywhites missed an absolute gem.
