The major talking point of the match was referee Jon Moss’s decision to send off Liverpool forward Sadio Mane that left football pundits on Twitter divided in opinion.
Mane was shown a straight red in the 35th minute of the match, when he collided with Man City goalkeeper Ederson as both the players went for the same ball.
The Senegal international kept his eyes on the ball, and although his intentions were not malicious, he raised his boots so high that it made contact with the goalkeeper’s jaw.
Former great England striker and now BBC Match of the Day pundit, Gary Lineker has described on Twitter to dismiss the decision as “rubbish”.
Former Liverpool player and now a popular pundit, Stan Collymore, also believes that it wasn’t a red card.
Former Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton said that it was never a red card, and that he felt sorry for Mane.
However, there are a few who felt that the decision was right.
Former Liverpool players Don Hutchinson and David James reacted in favour of the decision.
Former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair said that Mane raised the boot too high.
