Minister of Youth and Sports in Ghana, Mustapha Ussif, has revealed the Black Stars have a plan key stakeholders feel will see the African nation win the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana have qualified for their fourth finals following recent appearances at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 editions of the tournament. They were the only African country to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2006 edition in Germany, and went on to the quarter-finals in 2010.

No African nation has yet ever progressed into the semi-finals, or the final itself, during the past 21 World Cups. Ghana became the third African country to reach the quarter-finals in the 2010 tournament hosted by South Africa, after Cameroon in 1990 and Senegal in 2002.

Ghana would only follow their quarter-finals appearance with a group stage placement at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The Black Stars then failed to qualify for the last edition held in Russia in 2018, but reached the 2022 edition after they beat Nigeria through away goals.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey scored to secure Ghana a 1-1 draw in Nigeria following a goalless stalemate in the first-leg in March. The Black Stars will now face Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H at the tournament, which will begin on Sunday, November 20.

Ghana minster reveals ‘we have a plan’ to win 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar

Ghana’s Minster of Youth and Sports, Ussif, is confident the Black Stars will travel to Qatar with a chance of winning the 2022 Fifa World Cup. He has shared that all key stakeholders in the national set-up have agreed on a plan that they believe can result in global success.

“As a football powerhouse of Africa, Ghana is hopeful and believing that, Insha Allah, come November-December, we will be bringing the trophy back here to Ghana as the champions of the football family,” Ussif explained, via quotes by Ghana Soccer Net.

“We are very hopeful and we have a plan with the key stakeholders of the sports industry to put our plans together. So, we have the belief that, Insha Allah, in December, the Stars will shine in Qatar.”

Ghana’s game against Uruguay on December 2 is their third and final group stage fixture at the Qatar World Cup. The clash will also offer the Black Stars a chance to seek revenge for the 2010 World Cup match, having lost to La Celeste on penalties during the quarter-finals.
