Aston Villa have signed centre back Tommy Elphick from Bournemouth.
Bournemouth’s Tommy Elphick
Aston Villa today signed defender Tommy Elphick from Bournemouth – and Channel 5’s Football League pundit Adam Virgo is impressed with the deal.
After Villa struggled defensively in the Premier League last season, it was imperative that new manager Roberto Di Matteo brought in defensive reinforcements.

Today, they secured their first summer signing by luring Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick to Villa Park on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old won promotion from League One and the Championship with Bournemouth, becoming a key player under manager Eddie Howe – but last season was a tough one for the centre back.

Injuries played their part as Elphick featured in just 14 games last season, and after almost four years with the Cherries, he’s on the move to Villa.
The deal looks to be a solid one for Villa, as they’ve added a proven Championship defender to their ranks – and one pundit is impressed with Villa’s move.

Adam Virgo, currently a Football League pundit with Channel 5, played alongside Elphick for Brighton and Hove Albion, meaning he knows the player inside out.
Virgo took to Twitter today to rave about the deal, suggesting Elphick is a great signing for Villa and is one of the best leaders around – something Villa will need in the Championship next season.
