Aston Villa were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United on Monday evening, and once again the main talking point after the game was VAR.

The technology played an integral part in the game once again as Ollie Watkins’ last minute equaliser was chalked off due to an incredibly tight offside that wasn’t originally called by the linesman.

Usually, it’s strikers who complain about the technology rubbing them up the wrong way, but this time it’s the Aston Villa goalkeeper making his feelings known.

Martinez joins a growing list of footballers who have publicly complained about VAR.

This comes just days after Liverpool’s James Milner said he was falling out of love with football because of the refereeing system, and it’s hard to disagree with that view.

Watkins didn’t gain much of an advantage by part of his arm being in an offside position, in fact, it was only due to Angelo Ogbonna roughing him up that he had to put his arm out to keep himself balanced.

Even the most hardened West Ham fan would have to admit that Villa have been hard done by here, and Martinez hasn’t been coy about what he thinks of the matter.
