Speaking to Stadium Astro, Jack Wilshere has been discussing Arsenal and the leadership at the club.
Arsenal have seemingly had leadership problems for a long time. From William Gallas, to Laurent Koscielny to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal captains as of late haven’t covered themselves in glory.
However, Wilshere believes that there are still some leaders at the club, but he believes that the game has now changed and people lead in a different kind of way – pointing towards Alexandre Lacazette as an example.

Wilshere spoke about leadership at Arsenal.
“You think about Arsenal and you think of the likes of Vieira, Tony Adams, Thierry Henry, these big characters in the dressing room, there’s still a place for that in football, but football has changed,” Wilshere said.
“You have someone like Lacazette, he’s a different type of leader, he leads by the way he conducts himself and his behaviour around the training ground.”
The game has changed
Wilshere is absolutely right, the game has changed and what it means to be a leader has as well.
Think about all of the captains in the Premier League, how many of them are in the mould of a Tony Adams or a John Terry where they shout and scream to get their points across on the pitch? Not many.
Nowadays, to be a leader is about being a consummate professional, setting the standards in training and working as hard as possible, whereas a few years ago, it was seemingly all about having the loudest voice.
Arsenal may not have a Tony Adams these days, but as their recent performances have shown, they don’t necessarily need that type of figure.
