Gabriel Jesus has spoken about how ‘football has changed a lot’ in regard to Arsenal’s rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

The derby game for Arsenal is the north London derby between bitter rivals Spurs, whilst their battles with Chelsea, especially since the turn of the century, have always had heat to it.

But Gabriel Jesus, who joined the Gunners from Manchester City in the summer, thinks your neighbours aren’t the only ones who are your rivals because, those who you are competing for trophies against, also fall into the same boat.

In this case, it would be Manchester City because the two clubs are going toe-to-toe for Premier League glory this season.

When Jesus was in Manchester, it would have been Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, but now the roles have reversed.

Nonetheless, this is what Jesus had to say about rivalry in football and tasting the NLD against Tottenham for the first time, as he told Premier League Productions (10/05/23 at 3:15 pm).

“There are always derbies,” said Jesus. “With Tottenham, I mean, I arrived this year but you obviously want to play a derby. Tottenham is a derby. Chelsea is also a London derby.

“But I also think football has changed a lot, in my opinion. There is the derby, but also who you are toe to toe with for the title becomes your rival.

“If it’s one or two years in a row, it becomes a rivalry. Exactly (it becomes the focus).

“It was really good (playing in the NLD). I played in my first one and it was great.”

ARSENAL TITLE RACE

Well, given that both Tottenham and Chelsea are far away from Arsenal this season and Mikel Arteta’s side have done the double over them both.

Then those two have had much to shout about this season, as Arsenal are focusing on trying to fight Man City to end for the title.

It’s not exactly Sir Alex Ferguson vs Arsene Wenger or Roy Keane v Patrick Vieira, but it’s a rivalry that might go up a few levels in the next few years, especially if Arsenal and Man City continue to trade blows.
