The Blues have been linked with moves for the Swansea City and Southampton defenders.

If reports are to be believed, Everton are in the hunt for a central defender in the summer transfer window.
Their defence struggled under former manager Roberto Martinez last season and that will be something they are keen to fix.
They may also have to contend with the departure of John Stones, who looks set to make a big money move to Manchester City if the two sides can agree upon a fee.

According to the Mirror, Everton have agreed a £10 million fee for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams while the Sun claims a bid has been made for Southampton man Jose Fonte.
But who would be the better signing for the Toffees? We compared their stats from last season to find out.
| Team | Total Tackle per Game | Won Tackle per Game | Interception Won per Game | Effective Clearance per Game | Effective Head Clearance per Game | Duel Won per Game | Aerial Won per Game | Passing Accuracy | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Fonte | Southampton | 1.43 | 0.95 | 2.16 | 4.32 | 2.22 | 4.16 | 2.46 | 84% | 37 |
| Ashley Williams | Swansea | 1.89 | 1.44 | 2.75 | 7.08 | 4.42 | 4.44 | 2.03 | 85% | 36 |
And it was a comfortable win for Williams, who came out on top in all but one of the eight areas we looked at.
On a per game basis he posted more attempted tackles, more tackles won and more interceptions won than Fonte did.

He also managed more effective clearances and more effective headed clearances, while he also came out on top in terms of defensive duels won and overall passing accuracy.
The only area Fonte was successful in was when it came to aerial duels won, winning 2.16 per game compared to Williams tally of 2.03.
A comprehensive win for the Wales man nonetheless, who Everton should make their primary target based on this evidence.
