Rangers suffered a loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers suffered a 1-0 loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, but one player will surely be considering his future at Ibrox following the defeat at Hampden Park.
Gerrard made the surprise decision to name Umar Sadiq in his starting line-up, with Kyle Lafferty cup tied and Alfredo Morelos banned. But it was not the only change the Liverpool legend made.
Indeed, Ross McCrorie was left out of the 18-man squad to face Aberdeen despite impressing on the odd occasion he is given a chance in the first team. Of Gerrard’s 23 matches, McCrorie has only been axed four times.
The Gers academy product has made 11 appearances this season, but after being recognised as a holding midfielder rather than a centre-back, he has fallen down the pecking order under Gerrard.
Indeed, the form of Andy Halliday – who was reportedly transfer listed in the summer (Daily Mail) – has impressed under Gerrard this season in the number 4 role, while Ryan Jack remains first choice.
So, Halliday’s rise has seen McCrorie go from one of the first names on the team sheet last season to third choice and it should convince the 20-year-old to leave in the January transfer window on loan.

Known for his calmness on the ball and his intricate array of passing, as well as his ability in the air, McCrorie would be a top signing for a Scottish Premiership side on loan until the end of the season.
Such a move, would benefit all parties. Rangers would benefit from giving McCrorie experience to help his development, McCrorie can show Gerrard he is worth keeping and a potential loan side would be getting a top player.
