Aston Villa have taken Fola Esch defender Enes Mahmutovic on trial.
Luxembourg-based club Fola Esch have confirmed on their official website that teenage defender Enes Mahmutovic has joined Aston Villa on trial.
Villa are looking for reinforcements during this month’s transfer window, but much of the focus is on the first team, with the Daily Mail reporting that Villa are confident of landing Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury.

However, Villa also appear to be casting one eye towards the future, with the club seemingly set to take a young defender on trial later today.
Fola Esch – one of the biggest clubs in Luxembourg – have announced on their official website that defender Enes Mahmutovic is heading to Villa to undergo a trial period, starting today and ending on Saturday.

Mahmutovic will allegedly link up with Villa’s development squad, and Fola Esch wished him the best of luck as he travels to England to try and impress Villa ahead of a possible transfer.
Mahmutovic, 19, is a towering centre back who stands at 6ft 3in tall, but can also play at right back or in a holding midfield role, with that versatility potentially appealing to Villa.
The teenager has made 14 appearances for Fola Esch this season, and having played twice for the Luxembourg Under-21’s, he earned his first senior cap for his country back in November 2016.
Mahmutovic will now hope to impress Villa during his three-day trial period, and a move would be particularly interesting given that The Mirror recently linked Villa with a move for Luxembourg’s first-choice right back Laurent Jans, currently of Beveren – and a double swoop for Luxembourg defenders could be on the cards should Mahmutovic’s trial go well.
