Jose Enrique has told Curtis Jones on Twitter to ‘focus on training’ after he shared that he wants to ‘score 10 and assist 10’ for Liverpool ahead of the new season.
The former Liverpool left-back added that it’s ‘great’ that Jones has such ambitions, but he thinks he needs to do his talking in training, before thinking about what he can do in the starting XI.
With the level of quality Jurgen Klopp can pick from and the high demands he has on his players, then it’s not easy playing on a regular basis for the club.
Last season, the Anfield academy product played 15 Premier League games, starting 11, scoring and assisting once for his team – in all competitions, he played 27 times, as the Reds featured in every game possible.
There needs to be a serious improvement, both in game time and numbers, for Jones to hit his targets, as Enrique sent the following message to the attack-minded midfielder.
CARVALHO, ELLIOTT AND JONES
The future of Liverpool is looking bright, as Klopp and co have three upcoming talents to nurture during the coming years.
Given that Fabio Carvalho is a summer signing, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he isn’t thrown straight into the deep end and he takes a backseat during the first few months.
Last season, prior to his injury, Elliott, after a fantastic loan spell at Blackburn Rovers, was a regular and someone picked for the big games by his manager.
That’s perhaps an indication that Elliott is ahead of Jones in the pecking order and Klopp has rarely played the youngsters together in the Premier League.
Either way, all three are capable of hitting double figures, but for some, a lot of it will depend on game time because it’s pretty difficult getting into this Liverpool team.
