Joao Cancelo has told Gabriel Jesus on Instagram to ‘fly my boy’ as the new Arsenal star continues to shine in pre-season.
Earlier this summer, Arsenal put £45 million down on the table for Jesus’ services from Manchester City (Eurosport) and the 25-year-old has three goals from his first two matches in pre-season.
On Sunday, the Gunners beat Everton 2-0 with the versatile forward opening the scoring in Baltimore and he posted the following message to which Cancelo responded in the comments section ‘fly my boy’.
LIFE STARTING STRONG FOR JESUS
How many goals can Jesus score for Arsenal next season? Those in north London will be hoping he can hit 15+ in the Premier League alone.
The likes of Sadio Mane, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and Mo Salah all hit 17+ last season, the latter two scored 23 each and walked away with the Golden Boot.
During Jesus’ time in England’s top-flight, he hasn’t hit more than 15, which has raised some doubts because he has been playing for a dominant and free-scoring Manchester City side.
However, the Brazil international provides more than just goals because of his ability to connect play, find space for teammates and play across the front three.
At the Etihad, he was used in various roles by Pep Guardiola, but under Mikel Arteta, the main aim will be to use him in a central role.
Either way, there is big pressure on Jesus’ shoulders because he is now the senior man in the final third, with Eddie Nketiah as a back-up option.
Arsenal will kick off the 2022/23 Premier League season alongside Crystal Palace on Friday night, as Arteta will be hoping to avoid a repeat of what happened last season against Brentford.
