Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao could be heading for a second fight, a decade on from their first bout.

Mayweather won that meeting back in 2015 by unanimous decision, but the real story was how massive the event was. The pay-per-view numbers hit 4.4 million buys, bringing in $410 million – still the highest-grossing fight ever.

Now, talk of a rematch is picking up again. With streaming platforms like Netflix changing how people watch boxing, there’s real interest in seeing these two legends go at it one more time.

Filipino fans want to see Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2

A lot has changed since their first fight. Mayweather hasn’t fought professionally since beating Conor McGregor in 2017, though he’s stayed active with exhibition bouts against the likes of Logan Paul and Mikuru Asakura.

Manny Pacquiao retired after losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2021, but he’s since returned for exhibition matches as well. Fans have wanted this rematch ever since the first one ended, even if it comes much later than expected.

The appetite for another Mayweather vs Pacquiao clash is still there among fans who never felt satisfied with how their first meeting played out. Even if they’re both past their primes, there’s enough curiosity and nostalgia to make this worth watching – especially if you’re not paying $100 just to tune in this time around.

The original bout took place back on 3rd May 2015 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It ended up being a comfortable points win for Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather as he walked away with the WBA Super World Welterweight title and kept his perfect record intact at that time (48-0).

Title on the line if Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2 goes ahead

Manny Pacquiao has been named Vice President of the International Boxing Association (IBA). The former eight-weight world champion spoke about his new role during a press conference with one of the sport’s governing bodies.

During that event, Al Siesta, Director of the IBA Pro Series, said that if Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 does go ahead, a world title could be up for grabs.

“If Mayweather will agree and Manny would like that fight, we’ll put that at IBA and we’ll put IBA world title on the line,” Siesta said.

Pacquiao looked both surprised and pleased by the idea of fighting for another world title at age 47. “So, it’s possible I’m going to fight for a world championship in IBA,” he said. “I can be the first world champion in the IBA.”

Mayweather has a fight booked with Mike Tyson

Mayweather hasn’t fought professionally since his TKO win over UFC star Conor McGregor in August 2017.

Since then, ‘Money’ Mayweather has taken part in several exhibition matches, facing opponents like Logan Paul and Deji while continuing to draw large audiences.
