Newcastle United star Fabian Schar has been linked with two of the Magpies’ Premier League rivals this summer.

It was already looking like keeping Fabian Schar was going to be one of Newcastle’s most important tasks this summer, with the Daily Mirror reporting last month that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both wanted the centre-back.
Schar has been superb for the Magpies, and it would be a big blow for Rafa Benitez if Spurs or Arsenal manage to lure the Swiss away from St James’ Park at the end of the season.
But perhaps it is fair to say that it has become all the more imperative that Newcastle ensure that Schar goes nowhere during the upcoming window amid the news surrounding Florian Lejeune.
For the second season in a row, Benitez looks set to head into the next campaign without being able to call upon the Frenchman, with the Chronicle reporting that he is set to be sidelined until October after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

Lejeune has endured some terrible luck with injury. He did not play until January this season, and will miss the chance to help Newcastle try and get off to a good start next term. It is unfortunately also a reminder that he is going to be a tough player to rely on once he returns.
So losing Schar to the likes of Tottenham or Arsenal would be an even bigger setback for Benitez as he looks to build on what looks set to be another solid finish for the Magpies this season.
And for Spurs and the Gunners, they should perhaps not be surprised if Lejeune’s injury ensures that Schar’s asking price has just risen significantly.
