Fredrik Andre Bjorkan’s miserable spell at Hertha Berlin has come to an end with the former Leeds United, Newcastle and Celtic target seeing his contract at the Bundesliga strugglers torn up, as reported by the club’s official website.
The grass, as they say, is not always greener elsewhere.
You only have to look at the way things have gone for some of Bodo/Glimt’s title-winning heroes to realise that. Erik Botheim has scored just once in 14 Serie A games for Salernitana. Kasper Junker has found life difficult in Asia.
Patrick Berg, meanwhile, is now back at Bodo/Glimt after a forgettable spell with Lens in France. And, on Wednesday, Bjorkan took a leaf out of Berg’s playbook, returning to familiar surroundings in the Arctic Circle after starting just two Bundesliga games at Hertha and failing to make any sort of an impact on loan at Feyenoord.

“We are pleased to have found a suitable solution for all sides with this transfer,” says Hertha director Fredi Bobic after the German outfit terminated the Norway international’s contract.
“We would like to thank Fredrik for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
Leeds United, Newcastle and Celtic once wanted Bodo/Glimt’s Fredrik Bjorkan
According to TEAMtalk, Celtic held talks with Bjorkan during the summer of 2020. Leeds, Newcastle, Brighton, Norwich City and AFC Bournemouth also showed an interest in taking the diligent full-back to the Premier League.
Given how Bjorkan’s time at Hertha Berlin panned out, however, it’s difficult to imagine that the 24-year-old would have found life much easier amidst the hustle and bustle of English football.
Leeds, meanwhile, remain in the market for a left-back due to the ongoing injury absences of Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo. Fabiano Parisi and Kai Wagner are on the club’s radar. AZ Alkmaar whizzkid Milos Kerkez is another name to keep an eye on (talkSPORT).
Maximilian Wober, the £11 million signing from Red Bull Salzburg, is a centre-half by trade. But, like Pascal Struijk, he can also play wide on the left.
