Carlo Ancelotti told Sky Sports that he played Seamus Coleman during Everton’s win at Liverpool on Saturday to ‘fix the position’ of Andy Robertson.
The Italian opted to play two up top in Richarlison and James Rodriguez – both combined for Everton’s opening goal.
Added with that, it was also three at the back for the Toffees, with Coleman playing as a right-sided wing-back and the popular Lucas Digne out on the left.
After the game, Ancelotti shared his thoughts on Everton’s tactics and their reason to go long from the off at the weekend.
“We played with two strikers, James and Richarlison,” said Ancelotti. “We played with Coleman to fix a little bit the position of Robertson.
“Three midfielders and four at the back to control Mane, Salah and Firmino.
On going long from kick-off: “We have this kind of quality. We wanted to avoid the pressure from Liverpool. We know that they press a lot in front.
“But sometimes we have the possibility to play. We have a good combination.”

Everton fans can now start to dream with Ancelotti in the dugout and Saturday’s result is proof of that.
Ancelotti was brought in to use all of his experience, know-how, and trophy-laden career to get Everton back into Europe.
And at this moment in time, they are headed in that direction. Plus, the added bonus could be finishing above Liverpool, who are melting like butter this season.
