Players from Chelsea, Liverpool, Sunderland and QPR feature on our list.

Martin Kelly
The Liverpool full-back missed a sitter, which he is probably playing over in his head even now. Yards out with the goal gaping he scuffed his shot and barely connected. The match was poised at 1-1 and his goal would have surely won the match. As it was Liverpool slipped to defeat, seemingly blowing their slim Champions League hopes.

Lee Cattermole
Describing Cattermole as brainless could be deemed a compliment after yesterday. He was booked seconds into the game for a wild tackle of Cheik Tiote and when 90 minutes came in seemed a miracle he had survived a red card. Then he undid it, walking off the pitch with a crass rant at referee Mike Dean which saw the card finally brandished. Former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce’s decision to hand him the captain’s armband looks highly questionable.

Stephane Sessegnon
The Benin international’s sending off turned the game against Sunderland. The Mackems had played the best football of the match up until the turning point and had a 1-0 lead to protect. His sending off for his elbow on Chiek Tiote gave Newcastle the impetus to claim a 1-1 draw and they nearly won it. He will now be suspended and miss the game with Liverpool. Tiote’s reaction was too melodramatic for such a midfield hard man, but Sessegnon should know better.

Akos Buszaky
The QPR midfielder missed a glorious chance when it was 1-1 when it seemed easier to score. Adel Taarabt had already hit the post from distance for it to rebound into his path. Instead of converting it, he struck it against the other post and it went out of play. Everton held on to claim a draw and deny QPR a vital win.

Daniel Sturridge
The Chelsea striker had a nightmare against West Brom, in the loss which led to Andre Villas-Boas sacking. He shot wide a simple one-on-one in the first half, and fluffed a similar opportunity when through on goal in the second. Had he bagged one of those chances his manager may still be in a job.
