Players from Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, Liverpool, Cardiff City, and Aston Villa feature on our list…
Samba Diakite
The Mali international’s first half red card for QPR was needless and avoidable. He put his team under extra pressure and made their chances of beating Fulham a lot slimmer. He will hardly have endeared himself to his new fans either, who have barely seen him play.
Charlie Adam
The Scotsman may have won a winners’ medal at the Carling Cup Final but his penalty kick is probably still in orbit. For a player so accomplished as he from set pieces his effort was awful, the worst of the lot, and was reminiscent of Chris Waddle. He will be thankful Cardiff’s players were equally averse to hitting the target from 12 yards.
Anthony Gerrard
No longer will the Cardiff player be known to fans simply as Steven Gerrard’s cousin. No, now he will be known as Steven Gerrard’s cousin who missed a deciding penalty in the Carling Cup Final. Wide of the post, it really was a woeful effort, but to be fair, credit for having the bottle to step up and take one, unlike Luis Suarez.
Scott Parker
There is a lot for Tottenham fans to digest after yesterday’s collapse. Among it was Scott Parker’s red card for two yellows. The second came in the 90th minute and was really needless, with the game already lost and means he misses Spurs’ next game with Manchester United.
Darren Bent
With an England game next week Bent will have been hoping to put on a show against Wigan. He missed an early one on one which should be bread and butter for an international striker. His side drew 0-0 so it was a decisive miss. To make Bent’s weekend worse he has now had to pull out of the England game after suffering an injury.
