Jan Vertonghen
Tottenham fans have been anxiously waiting on news of the Vertonghen transfer since early May. They remain the number one contenders for his signature, but it is being held up. The Ajax captain has already returned to pre-season training with the club, and spoke this week about wanting ‘clarity’ over the situation. The move is being held up by Vertonghen wanting 15 per cent of his transfer fee, which under terms of his contract he argues he is obliged to, but Ajax are disputing the claim, arguing it only counts if his £15 million buyout fee is met. The defender has even called in a lawyer. The Belgian would be an excellent addition for Spurs, and with the future of Ledley King uncertain, the club would do well to keep pushing for the transfer’s conclusion.
Loic Remy
Marseille striker Loic Remy has been linked with Tottenham for several months. The Mirror claim that Andre Villas-Boas is to be handed money to go out and seal the deal. The striker was said to be keen when Champions League football was on offer, but the deal went quiet in the wake of Chelsea’s victory. The ambition and plans of AVB could convince the Frenchman that Spurs is the place to be, and he could cost between £14 million and £18 million. The 25-year-old scored 18 times in 37 starts last season, and Spurs need strikers with Jermain Defoe the only recognised frontman on their books.
Oscar
Brazilian midfielder Oscar is wanted by the club as a potential Modric replacement, and could team up with former Internacional midfielder Sandro. He is only 20-years-old, but highly rated, featuring and scoring for Brazil in their 4-3 friendly defeat to Argentina. His other career highlight includes a hat-trick in last year’s Under-20 World Cup Final against Portugal. Signing him could smooth the path to sign teammate Leandro Damiao, another Spurs target. The Mail report that the move depends on the asking price, but with QPR attempting to sign him in January, they may have to move quickly or lose out on him.
Joao Moutinho
Portugal star Moutinho was one of the stars of Euro 2012, impressing in every game for his country. The 25-year-old Porto star played under Villas-Boas previously and has been at the club his whole career. Manchester United are also believed to have made contact with his employers, and AVB will have to use his powers of persuasion to try to bring him to Spurs. He scored three goals and made three assists last year, but his positioning, tackling and passing makes him even more valuable, freeing up his teammates for the exciting jobs. He could cost anywhere between £20 million and £30 million, but with Hulk potentially leaving Porto too, the club would want an quick deal, allowing them time to rebuild.
Alan Dzagoev
Another star of Euro 2012, Dzagoev’s father revealed that Spurs have made his son an offer. He currently plays for CSKA Moscow and his contract runs out in December, allowing Tottenham to pick him up for £10 million or even cheaper. The Russian is an attacking midfielder, who is only 22, and his arrival would go some way to replacing Luka Modric, who is expected to leave the club. He scored five goals in the Russian Premier League last season, also picking up five assists, and scored three times at the European Championships.
