Everton performed well as they defeated Lille 3-0 in the Europa League last night.

Everton produced a comfortable 3-0 win against Lille in the Europa League last night to secure first place in their group ahead of the last 32 of the competition.

It was a solid all round performance, which sets the side up well for the game against Sunderland this Sunday.

Here are five things we learned about Everton based on the performance.

Naismith and Lukaku

The pair showed flexibility last night in terms of one or two subtle rotations between the central attacking position and the right attacking position. Naismith looks hungry whenever he plays through the middle but he was intelligent enough to adapt to Lukaku’s position throughout the game.

Ruthlessness

Everton showed the same ruthless side they displayed in the match against Wolfsburg. When they got in front, they didn’t sit on their advantage, they stepped on the gas and looked to increase their lead, which they did, twice.

Martinez

His tactics were spot on. He seems to have a good eye for how to change the side from playing in the Premier League to playing in Europe. He found a way to keep Lille’s key players out of the game. The challenge comes when the Toffees face a higher quality side than Lille.

Tony Hibbert

Seamus Coleman is always going to be the first choice right-back but Hibbert still has enough about him to perform on the right hand side of the defence. He was solid and played sensibly whether he was defending or looking to get forward and create some extra width.

Leon Osman

Osman’s new deal at the club seems to have done wonders for his mentality. It was very clear that he was in a great mood as he produced a feisty and attacking performance, which was capped off with a goal.
