Liverpool’s deadline day was spent getting one of their players off their books and earning a point with the current Premier League leaders.
While there were no incomings on transfer deadline day, Tuesday still left Liverpool fans with plenty to talk about on forums This Is Anfield and Red and White Kop…
Andy Carroll rates his career out of 10, talks about leaving Newcastle
Was the lack of transfer activity a mistake?
As mentioned, Liverpool did not make any signings on deadline day, or during the entire window for that matter. While the Reds’ recent form may have influenced the section of supporters who wanted some business to be done, the large majority of fans believe that it was a wise decision to hold off and wait until the summer when they can pursue their main targets. Several fans pointed out that the acquisitions of Andy Carroll and Mario Balotelli prove that panic buying rarely pays off.
Mamadou Sakho
Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho
Despite Mamadou Sakho not playing once this season, there were several supporters who expressed their disappointment that he has been allowed to join Crystal Palace on loan. Liverpool’s defence has arguably been their Achilles heel this term, and those who remain unconvinced about Dejan Lovren seem to suggest that Sakho perhaps should have had a role to play. However, it is also pointed out that Jurgen Klopp’s refusal to play Sakho at all meant that Lovren’s form is almost irrelevant and his departure was inevitable.
Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane’s absence has been earmarked as a key reason for Liverpool’s recent woes, so his return to the side for their draw with Chelsea undoubtedly provided Anfield with a huge boost. The fans were delighted to have him back and supporters are hopeful that he can rediscover the form he showed before he went away to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Simon Mignolet
Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet
Simon Mignolet’s Liverpool career was summed up in his performance against Chelsea. He showcased both the sublime and the ridiculous in the 1-1 draw. The Belgian made a brilliant save from Diego Costa’s late penalty but was not even looking the right way when David Luiz hit the free-kick which had given the Blues the lead. A large portion of the fans taking to the forums appear to be tired of coming to the same conclusions about Mignolet and feel that the club’s options between the sticks must be strengthened in the near future.

Chelsea result
As well as the return of Mane, the other major positive to come from deadline day was the performance against Chelsea. Antonio Conte’s men have been brilliant this term and the Reds have obviously struggled in recent weeks, but Liverpool showed plenty of fight to come from a goal down and earn a draw. The majority of fans certainly feel that the Reds deserved at least a point, with some still optimistic that the title race may not be over.
More displays like that, and it may not be…
