We take a look a five stats behind Leicester City’s mid-table finish.

Big chances created – 42
Leicester City lost a lot of their creative spark this season. Only Arsenal (89) created more than the Foxes (72) during the 2015/6 campaign. This time around, Leicester ranked 10th in the Premier League behind the likes of Stoke City and Everton.
Part of this has been a big drop off in accurate through balls which Leicester’s forward line, Jamie Vardy in particular, used to thrive off. These have more than halved – from 36 to 17.
Individually, Mahrez wasn’t able to recapture his incredible form and created half as many clear cut chances (10) as last season.
Fast breaks – 18
Counter attacks were still an important part of Leicester’s game plan, as the Foxes recorded three less fast breaks than their title winning year. They also reaped the benefits of getting into these situations, scoring the 3rd most goals in the division on the break.
Error leading to goal – 2
For the second season running, Leicester registered the fewest errors leading to goals in the Premier League. Those rare mistakes were credited to Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Drinkwater.

Goals conceded in the box – 58
Despite keeping errors to a limit, the Foxes conceded almost twice as many goals in the box as their previous season. Leicester’s defence struggled to recreate the siege mentality which was the basis of their incredible season. This also shows in a drop off in clean sheets – from 15 to 9.
Possession – 42
Remarkably, Leicester registered the same average share of possession as last season – and the third lowest in the Premier League. The Foxes even completed more passes during this league campaign, with 9,589 compared to the 9,426 they racked up last time out.
In contrast, this year’s Champions, Chelsea, averaged 54% possession – the sixth highest in the league.
