With the January transfer window coming up, Manchester United are expected to be in the market for new signings.

This season has been a big improvement on last year for United, but Ruben Amorim knows his side will need more depth if they’re going to sustain this form through the second half of the campaign.

Plenty of speculation is already picking up around potential moves, especially with the possibility of Kobbie Mainoo leaving in January.

While nothing’s set in stone yet, there are a few names who seem to be strong candidates if United decide to act.

Here are five players Manchester United could look to bring in during January.

Angelo Stiller

Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller is a realistic option for January, having been regularly linked with United in recent months.

With top targets out of reach and a release clause of £35 million, Stiller could be the best value midfield addition available to United this window.

His ability to control play and press aggressively would offer something different, and while he’s not Premier League tested, his skill set suggests he could adapt well.

If United are looking to fill Manuel Ugarte’s role without overspending, Stiller seems like a sensible pick at the price being quoted.

Christos Mouzakitis

United’s biggest need right now is in midfield, and Christos Mouzakitis has been linked to Old Trafford as a possible answer.

The club’s interest in the Greek youngster appears serious, with reports suggesting that a £25m bid has already gone in for him.

Mouzakitis, who recently won the Golden Boy award, would be a strong addition to the squad and could anchor the midfield for years to come if he continues to develop as expected.

Ederson

A third midfield option has come up, although it’s not one that would bring much excitement to the fans, even if it would still represent an upgrade.

Ederson of Atalanta has been mentioned again in connection with a move to United, as he often is whenever a window opens. Reports from Brazil suggest United are considering starting talks for the midfielder, and possibly at a reduced fee.

There have even been suggestions that Ederson could help get more out of Bruno Fernandes if he joins the squad.

Conor Gallagher

One name that keeps popping up is Conor Gallagher, with the Atletico Madrid midfielder consistently linked to United throughout the season.

Reports suggest Gallagher is content in Spain, but there’s still plenty of talk about a potential move. He has proven himself in the Premier League, which would add some much-needed experience to United’s midfield.

Even though he might not be the ideal long-term solution, Gallagher could be a practical addition for what remains of this season.

Ruben Neves

One of the better-value options for January might be Ruben Neves, who is available from Al-Hilal.

The former Wolves midfielder has plenty of Premier League experience, and with his contract set to run out in June, he’s available for just £18m. That would make a lot of sense for United as they look to add more depth in midfield.

Neves fits either midfield role in Amorim’s system and would likely be comfortable with a rotation role. Pairing him with a younger option could give United a good balance.
