Five reasons why Robin van Persie will stay at Arsenal next season

Arsenal will be desperate to hold onto their star striker this summer- should fans be hopeful of hanging onto him?

After reading yesterday’s ‘Five reasons Robin van Persie will leave Arsenal‘, by Tottenham season ticket holder Matt Davis, Arsenal blogger and fellow HITC Sport writer Mohammed Asim says he was compelled to respond with five reasons of his own why the Dutchman will stay at the Emirates.

1) Ambition

Van Persie is the club Captain and has reiterated his ambitions as an Arsenal player time and again, previously saying, “I don’t have the inclination to go anywhere,”.

Further adding, which I’m sure no top manager with an interest in the Dutch striker would want to hear, “This is the best team for me to be in. The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt.

“I’m sure I could win things at another team in another country, but would it feel like our trophy, my trophy? I’m not sure it would. Anything we win here will come from the heart and that’s what I want. It’s my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that’s it.”

Speaking of ambition, if Tottenham’s is finishing above Arsenal is that called being ambitious?

2) Money

There is no doubt that eagerness to buy a top player and a top quality leader will be high not just with English clubs but also clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.

The big spending Manchester City will try all they can to lure our Captain Vantastic. And as Matt suggests it will be lucrative, as it lured his former teammates like Clichy, Nasri, and Adebayor, but, being a smart person van Persie is he’s also aware of the fate of each of these money hungry players, two are struggling for regular starts while Adebayor is on a loan at Spurs speaks volumes about the poor guy’s fate.

Also, van Persie has this to say: “We love the life in London and I enjoy watching my kids grow up here, they grow up like the English kids with good manners and values of England.

“The place where we live, just outside the city, is fantastic. We have everything we want. The English people are so incredibly polite where I live. People are nice here. That makes life a real pleasure.”

Chelsea has quality attackers like Mata, Lampard agreed, but please note they are struggling behind us in the league. And van Persie loves his partnership with Walcott and even compares it to Henry-Pires.

3) Trophies

There is no running away from the fact that the Emirates Trophy cabinet is jinxed, and this needs to be sorted sooner, than later.

But, there is no denial to the fact that Wenger is the best man for the job. With his record in modern day English football speaking itself, second only to Sir Alex Ferguson. Robin van Persie is well aware of the fact and should also be aware of the club finances after moving into Emirates, with expected changes on their way, he’ll be more than convinced.

And, its ironic when a Spurs fan is pointing out this fact about Arsenal, comparing them to mighty Arsenal is unjust. Spurs don’t even have as many titles in their entire history as Wenger has.

4) One man team

Naive. Is all you can say when somebody comes up with such pointless arguments like – ‘without RVP’s goals Arsenal would be 17th’. How do you think a top club (I’m not talking about Spurs) , a top manager like Wenger (not ‘Arry) respond when they don’t have a scoring player in its line up? Anyone who has ever played football, knows ‘it takes two to pass’.

Most of the van Persie goals have come from Arsenal’s brand of football which involves possession, counter-attack and both the goals at Liverpool were thanks to amazing assists by Sagna and Song. (Remember him kissing Song’s boots?)

RVP has scored very few individual screamers like the equaliser in the amazing 5-2 game.

5) Reinvestment in a younger man

This will take me an entire new post to explain, but, Wenger’s policy of investment on youth is a long term project. Which for us- definitely has produced future club legends like Wilshere, Walcott, Song, Sczceny, Gibbs, Ox, Ramsey, Jenkinson, Ryo, etc.

Faith in this policy is nearing to show its return, this is probably the only season where we are not desperate for reinforcements. Van Persie was the part of this very project, (just 2.75 million remember) and Wenger’s long term investment.

RVP is well aware of the fact. He’ll not be stupid like Nasri and Fabregas to leave this club on the verge of becoming a legend like Henry.

Hope this fired on target. Will keep Gunning on twitter @asimgunner
