Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table, but can they win the title, here are the top five reasons why they could clinch their first title in 27 years.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table and are being tipped by football fans as contenders to clinch their first title in 27 years.

The Reds last won the top flight of English football during the 1989-1990 campaign and after their impressive start to the season supporters are starting to believe that Jurgen Klopp could deliver the trophy come May.

But, what are the main factors for Liverpool winning the Premier League and especially with challengers such as, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea already proving why this could be the tightest title race of the modern era.

Here are the top five reasons why Liverpool might win the league.

No European football to contend with

Whilst their title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal in particular have to cope with mid-week congestion in the Champions League, along with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United who are still seen as title contenders, with the latter competing in the Europa League. Liverpool do not have to worry about keeping their top stars fresh.

Of course the same could be said of Chelsea who have no European football either.

Liverpool are sitting top of the table and if they are still within touching distance of first place by the time Christmas rolls around and if they sign one or two players in January, with no knockout European fixtures to distract them, then this could be their year.

Jurgen Klopp

Klopp has only been in the job for a little over a year, but Liverpool supporters already love their new German manager.

The 49-year-old has introduced a wonderful brand of slick attacking football this season, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho stealing the spotlight (more of that later), but the style of play would not work without Emre Can and Jordan Henderson winning the ball back and pulling the strings from the middle of the park.

Klopp knows what it takes to win a league title, having done so twice with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

Defence

The biggest downside to Liverpool’s start to the campaign has been their defence, having conceded 14 goals in 11 league matches so far.

Having said that, Joel Matip has proven to be a great signing, with the centre-back seemingly finding his feet quickly in English football.

Klopp knows how to keep clean sheets, having conceded just 47 goals in Dortmund’s back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2011 and 2012 combined..

The German manager will know that his side will need to concede less goals, whilst maintaining their free-flowing scoring record at the other end of the pitch.

Outstanding forwards

The Reds have scored more goals than any other side in the division with 30 goals.

Summer signing Mane has seemingly created a phenomenal partnership with Coutinho and Firmino, which has made the Anfield side the most entertaining club to watch in the Premier League with the trio accounting for over half of their goals.

But the usual question of whether they can maintain their superb start, does not simply apply to Liverpool’s forwards. With the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi currently proving quality back-up, this has to be the best collection of strikers that the club have had during the Premier League era.

Klopp’s record against Premier League’s best

Klopp has a superb record against arguably the five biggest clubs other than Liverpool in the Premier League, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, having lost just one of his 15 league encounters with the aforementioned.

The Merseyside outfit have won six of those 15 fixtures whilst drawing the other eight.

If Liverpool can continue to beat the lower ranked teams, as well as picking up valuable points against the ‘big boys’ then the Reds might just clinch their first league title in 27 years.
