Alfonso Pedraza signed for Leeds on transfer deadline day on loan from Villarreal and so far looks to be a shrewd acquisition by Garry Monk and his staff.

Here is a look at five reasons Leeds fans should be excited about the talented Spaniard…

Immediate impact

Alfonso Pedraza didn’t take long to get started for Leeds, scoring in just his third appearance for the club.

Pedraza came off the bench and scored against Birmingham City in a 3-1 win earlier this month, and as a result has nailed down a starting spot, nearly following up in his next game when he hit the woodwork.

Compare this to the more experienced Mo Barrow who has yet to earn a start since his loan move, and Leeds should be very excited about his early progress.

Dribbling

At the weekend, Pedraza made four successful dribbles in Leeds’ vital win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

This ranked third in the Championship at the weekend, with only two players managing more. These were Jacob Murphy of Norwich (7) and Barnsley’s Ryan Kent (4).

Having a player in your side who is willing to take people on and beat them is a key asset and creates more space for the likes of Chris Wood and Pablo Hernandez to have an impact.

Work rate

Pedraza’s work rate has shown he is not just all flair and technique, but that he is willing to dig in too.

In the 1-1 draw at Fulham he made five tackles, more than any Leeds player, and won four interceptions – also a team high.

It is this extra string to his bow which makes him perfectly suited for the rigours of English football and has helped him adapt so quickly.

Lugo’s demise

Pedraza was on loan at Spanish second division side Lugo before his switch, where he scored six goals.

Without him they have been on a terrible run of form, winning only two of their last seven matches.

This has seen them fall out of promotion contention and down into ninth position.

Money

Perhaps the biggest indicator of Pedraza’s talent is how highly Villarreal value him.

If they secure promotion, Leeds are on the hook to pay £8 million to secure his signature, AS report.
