We highlight five options for Brian McDermott to consider after Dexter Blackstock’s injury. Players from Arsenal, Cardiff City, Sunderland, West Brom and Norwich feature.
Brian McDermott obviously felt his team needed striking reinforcements recently because he brought in Dexter Blackstock from Nottingham Forest on an emergency loan deal.
However the striker suffered a season ending injury recently leaving McDermott with an empty spot to fill.
Noel Hunt is expected to return to training next week – but it could be another month before he returns to action.
So who could he bring in?
Here are five loan options from the Premier League…
Benik Afobe
The talented Arsenal striker is no stranger to loan-deals having spent time with Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers.
He is also no stranger to Brian McDermott. He spent a month on loan at Reading in 2012.
He has recently returned from a serious knee injury and is now back scoring goals for the under-21 side.
A spell on loan could give him the first-team experience he desperately craves after such a nasty injury.
Luciano Becchio
The return of the prodigal son?
Becchio was at Leeds United for five years before leaving in January 2013 for Norwich City.
Since then he has barely played a game for The Canaries and recently admitted being ‘mystified’ at his continued omission.
But would Leeds have him back?
Markus Rosenberg
The former Ajax and Werder Bremen star arrived at West Brom last summer in what looked a good Bosman signing.
That has not exactly proved to be the case.
The Swedish international is still waiting to score his first goal for The Baggies after 29 appearances.
He barely features at The Hawthorns at the moment – and a deal makes sense on his part.
However Leeds might struggle to cover any of his wages.
Nicky Maynard
The striker burst onto the scene with Crewe and later Bristol City but since joining West Ham in 2012 things have been a struggle for the 27-year-old.
He has suffered with severe injuries which have greatly reduced his playing time and could use an extended spell of football elsewhere.
Could Elland Road provide the answer?
Conor Wickham
The England under-21 striker is currently on-loan in Yorkshire with Sheffield Wednesday and set to return to Sunderland on the 1st January.
Gus Poyet has admitted he has no plans to sell the player but did admit he could go back out on loan.
A trip back to Yorkshire might just be the trick.
