Who could replace Simon Mignolet if Liverpool look to change things up?
Liverpool look likely to hand Simon Mignolet a new contract in the coming weeks, a decision that will perplex most Liverpool fans.
The Belgian has been struggling for form in recent weeks with his sporadic form and sketchy ability to handle crosses a major worry.
With that in mind Liverpool fans would love to see a new keeper at the club this January.
So who would be a good option?
Here are five potential names they should consider.
Jack Butland – Stoke City
The England stopper has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks and rightly so.
The Potters keeper has been perhaps the standout goalkeeping performer in the Premier League this season and he would struggle to say no to Anfield.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen – Barcelona
An unlikely but ambitious potential target.
The German is currently the ‘cup goalkeeper’ at Barcelona but a player of his standard should not be sitting on the sidelines regularly.
The promise of regular football under a countryman at one of the world’s biggest clubs. Worth a punt?
Loris Karius – Mainz
Another German but one who would appear to be far more attainable.
Currently with Mainz, a team Jurgen Klopp has great relations, he appears a top talent for the future.
Samir Handanovic – Inter Milan
Another who would be an ambitious move.
The Slovenian is out of contract in the summer and Inter are said to be looking for replacements already.
His wages however would be astronomical.
Jasper Cillessen – Ajax
The Dutch international is now at the stage where he needs to move on from Ajax to improve his career.
A top talent who could provide competition for Mignolet without necessarily immediately taking the number one spot.
