Cardiff City today announced the sacking of Head Coach Paul Trollope after a shocking start to the season which left them just one spot from bottom.

Trollope failed on a monumental scale at Cardiff with six losses in his last seven leaving the hierarchy with no choice, but who will replace him? Who can drag Cardiff out of trouble? Here are five candidates.

Neil Warnock

The experienced boss will undoubtedly be the Bluebirds’ faithful number one choice and according to Wales Online, he’s the club’s main target as well.

Warnock has a wealth of experience in the Championship and a whole handful of promotions to his name. Cardiff will need an experienced head to put right the mistakes made by a less experienced boss so you can certainly understand why he’s the man the club want.

The 67-year-old’s most recent tenure was a with Rotherham United when he joined the club to save them from impending relegation and he did so before leaving after failing to agree a new deal.

Ian Holloway

Another experienced manager without managerial commitments is Ian Holloway and the former Blackpool boss certainly knows how to get out of the second tier with two promotions to his name.

Holloway is rumoured to have a real soft spot for Cardiff and could be the man they need to steer them clear of trouble.

The Gloucester-born boss’ last managerial role was a real black mark on his career after overseeing a poor spell with Millwall before being dismissed – the Lions were subsequently relegated.

Holloway could be given an opportunity to get back into the game and he could do well with Cardiff, but will he be lured away from his Sky Sports’ Football League coverage commitments?

Steve Bruce

The third and final experienced head to be recommended here and Bruce is in the running for the job, according to a number of betting sites.

Bruce left his job at Hull City earlier in the summer after deciding to end a ropy relationship with the club’s owners but there’s no doubt he can do a job in the Championship, and beyond.

The 55-year-old has real experience, tactical ‘knowhow’ and Cardiff could do a lot worse if they’re willing to pay the wages.

Craig Bellamy

The former Cardiff City forward was touted for the job in the summer but the South Wales club decided to appoint from within in the form of Paul Trollope.

There aren’t many in the game who are as passionate for Cardiff City as Craig Bellamy but is that enough to and him the job? Bellamy has never managed a football club and that will count for a lot.

The former Liverpool and Manchester City forward has been coaching in the Cardiff City academy during the last couple of years and being a fan favourite, he is likely to be considered in some capacity.

Ryan Giggs

The former Welsh international was strongly linked for the Swansea City job before Bob Bradley took the post and he’ll inevitably be linked with the Cardiff job now Trollope has been given the boot.

Giggs has consistently said he wants to get into football management and he left his assistant role at Manchester United for that reason.

The drawback is, Giggs only has four games of managerial experience and Cardiff aren’t really in a position to take another gamble.

Giggs followed Cardiff City as a young boy and will likely be keen to take the role but it will depend whether Cardiff are looking to take another chance or play it safe.
