Jurgen Klopp has hinted that a number of players could be in contention to leave Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
After Jurgen Klopp suggested that a number of players’ futures will be discussed at the end of the season (via Daily Mirror), here is a look at five members of the first-team who are perhaps most likely to be at the forefront of any discussions that take place…
Daniel Sturridge
The most obvious name is that of Daniel Sturridge. Klopp confirmed in his comments that the striker would be one of the names talked about this summer (via Mirror), and it would hardly be a surprise if he ultimately did move on. He has been injury-prone at Anfield and simply does not seem to fit into Klopp’s preferred system. And given his record when he has been fit, it seems unlikely that another team will not take a chance on him.
Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet
Simon Mignolet
Neither one of Liverpool’s first choice goalkeepers have really made a positive impression this season, so it would not be a surprise if one moves on this summer. With Loris Karius being a Klopp signing and being considerably younger, the smart money would suggest that Mignolet is potentially destined to move on.
Alberto Moreno
In the last six games that Alberto Moreno has featured in – although he has started in just three of them – the Reds have secured just one win, against Plymouth in the FA Cup, while also suffering defeats to the likes of Leicester, Hull and Wolves. The Spaniard has struggled to prove himself to Klopp, so it is difficult to imagine that the manager will have many qualms about letting him go.
Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and Ragnar Klavan
Lucas
Lucas’ departure from Anfield seems to have been on the cards for a while now, so surely this summer he will be on his way. Unfortunately, the Brazilian now seems to bring little to the squad when he is out on the pitch, so it seems likely that he will be one of the first names that Klopp and his team discuss at the end of the season.
Emre Can
Emre Can’s excellent performances seem to be too few and far between at the moment, which should no longer be the case given how long he has been on Merseyside. He surely needs to start delivering on a regular basis in the near future. It would probably be a surprise to see him leave, but Klopp surely has every right to ask questions at the end of the season.
