Chelsea will likely be making several signings this summer along with sanctioning a number of transfers out of the club.
Here is a look at five top players who have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the last seven days:
Gregory van der Wiel
Reports have linked the Ajax full-back with a move to Chelsea after talks over move to Valencia broke down. The right-back has been a key part of the Ajax side which is on a seven game winning run in the Eredivisie. Spanish side Valencia were said to be close to a move for the 24-year-old Dutchman, who was a one time target for Manchester City, but the hitch has allowed Chelsea to move in. The player would be a good acquisition for Chelsea, with question marks over both Jose Bosingwa and Paul Ferreira, who could both be off in the summer, leaving just Branislav Ivanovic as cover for the position. With 18 months left on his contract, he would cost around £10 million.
Stevan Jovetic
Montenegro forward Jovetic has been a player reborn this season since his return from injury. The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 22 starts for Fiorentina and plays in several positions as an attacking midfielder just behind the striker on either flank, and up front. The Italian club are set to miss out on European football next season, which would tempt him into a move, and reports in Italy claim Chelsea representatives met with Jovetic’s agent last week. He would certainly add some much needed creativity to the Chelsea attack, sharing the burden with Juan Mata.
Angel di Maria
The Sun newspaper has claimed that Chelsea are monitoring Argentine winger Angel di Maria. The 24-year-old Real Madrid star is reported to have rejected a new contract offer at the Bernabeu believing he is worth more than he is being offered. Manchester City are said to also be interested, but the newspaper claims Chelsea are readying a bid of around £30 million. Di Maria has been used on a rotational basis this season, making only 15 starts, scoring six goals, but also providing a highly impressive 13 assists.
Markel Susaeta
The Mail has reported that Chelsea are one of a number of clubs interested in Athletic Bilbao winger Susaeta. Manchester United and Arsenal are also linked with the 24-year-old. He has been a regular for his club this season, scoring seven goals. He would be a cheaper alternative to Angel di Maria, with Madrid also monitoring him as a potential replacement for the Argentine if he leaves.
Lucas Ocampos
As part of their investment in youth, it is claimed that Chelsea are interested in signing Argentian striker Lucas Ocampos. The player is only 17-years-old and plays for River Plate. He has been hailed in South America as the next Edinson Cavani. Roma, PSG and Juventus are also said to be interested, with River reportedly ready to discuss a sale this summer. Six foot Ocampos can also play on the left wing, and says his idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring six goals in his debut season.
