Leeds United have enjoyed an excellent season in the Championship, but not every player has covered themselves in glory.
Leeds manager Garry Monk
Leeds United have undoubtedly enjoyed a much better season than most anticipated they would. Garry Monk’s men are currently flying high in the Championship, but not every player has contributed a great deal to the Whites’ campaign.
With that in mind, here are five players who can perhaps be disappointed with their form this term…
Stuart Dallas
It seems incredibly harsh to include Stuart Dallas on this list given his recent form has arguably improved and he scored his second goal in four games when he bagged Leeds’ equaliser in their draw with Ipswich on Saturday, but it is arguably a sign of how well Leeds have done with a relatively thin squad that he makes the five. His form, as a whole, has not been as strong as last term.
Liam Cooper
Leeds’ Liam Cooper
Liam Cooper has become something of a scapegoat for when things have not gone to plan for Leeds this season. And while he has not deserved all of the criticism that has come his way, it is clear that he is the third best centre-back in the squad, some way behind Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley.
Marco Silvestri
Marco Silvestri has been restricted to cup appearances this term, and while he performed heroically in the EFL Cup tie with Norwich, his display in the FA Cup defeat against Sutton highlighted why it would always be a gamble to rely on him as a number one. He made some good saves in the game, but his decision-making and distribution were questionable once again.
Matt Grimes
Leeds United’s Matt Grimes
While most fans want several of the loanees signed permanently at some stage, one loanee that they should arguably not expect to stay beyond the end of the season is Matt Grimes. The Swansea man has done little of note since arriving and has found himself right down the pecking order in a position where Leeds are so strong.
Marcus Antonsson
Marcus Antonsson has probably been the biggest victim of Chris Wood’s brilliant run of form playing as a lone striker. The Swede has struggled when playing up front alone and has probably not shown enough – he started brightly following his summer move – to convince Monk to change his tactics just to accommodate the forward.
