Luke Moore
A winner against a side who had not conceded in their last two league games was a superb way to re-announce his existence in the top flight. For Moore’s career has been one of great promise, but unfulfilled potential, after being billed in his teens as a Premier League star of the future. Many fans did not even realise he was at Swansea, failing to win a place in the team’s starting line-up. His winner for the Welsh side against Manchester City was superb for him individually as it was for the club, in confirming their status as a growing force in the league’s top division.
Andreas Weimann
Aston Villa fans have high hopes for their young Austrian, who has seen his chances of first team football boosted by Darren Bent’s injury. His late winner at Fulham was desperately needed by Villa, who were without a home league win since November. Weimann has now given Villa fans something to be excited about after a difficult start to life under Alex McLeish, and the goal eases any distant fears of being sucked into a relegation battle.
Didier Drogba
The Ivorian’s 100th league goal for Chelsea could not have come at a more opportune time for his club, playing their first home game under new caretaker manager Roberto di Matteo. Drogba has had a hugely inconsistent season, on occasion he looks like his old self, but most of the time he has seemed to be off the pace. Against Stoke he took up the mantle as the team’s leader in attack, and was Chelsea’s biggest threat, particularly in the second half. His goal will have given the side a huge lift ahead of their do or die Champions League game against Napoli in midweek.
Nikica Jelavic
Since joining at the end of January, it has been a difficult start to life for at Everton for Nikica Jelavic, because he has not been playing. Handed a home debut against Tottenham he did not disappoint, netting early in the first half, which turned out to be the winner in a 1-0 victory. With the Merseyside derby in midweek he has another chance to confirm his status as an instant hero, and show fans that the £6 million they handed to Rangers was well spent.
Junior Hoilett
With a move away from the club in the summer in his sights, Junior Hoilett could be forgiven for letting the speculation affect his game. He proved his commitment to the cause on Saturday, scoring two crucial goals for Blackburn Rovers, to lift them three points above Wolves. The Molineux club will be licking their wounds, but Rovers fans will now be believing for the first time that the great escape is on, and will hope Hoilett can repeat his match winning heroics when the club host Sunderland in their next game.
